Escali Supernova Digital Scale
5.75 inch x 8.25 inch x 1.5 inch high
Platform dimensions 5.75 inch x 5.75 inch
This scale looks familiar. Its name sounds familiar.
The familiar look and sound are real: The Supernova follows the Nova (item P21PL-M), the two scales sharing multiple things in common, besides being both in shades of gray: The Nova and Supernova work on the same adapter/batteries, match in dimensions and give the same four types of weight units (g, oz, lb, and lb+oz). Also common to both scales are auto shutoff, identical digital displays and buttons, and tare (placing a container on the scale, then setting the weight to 0, then adding the food to be weighed, thereby obtaining the weight of the food without the weight of the container).
The difference between Nova and Supernova is in how heavy an object each can weigh:
The Nova can weigh 2 pounds times 2. That means it weighs 2 lbs and then, by being tared to 0, weighs another 2, for a total of 4 pounds.
The Supernova weighs 3.25 times that amount--3.25 x 4lbs = 13 lbs.*
How the different oz/lb units display
Using an item weighing 1 lb + 4 ounces as an example (with 1 lb = 16 oz),
Oz: 20
Lbs: 1.25
Lb+oz: 1 on the left side of the screen, 4 on the right side
Like the Nova, the Supernova
- Is small and lightweight, making it portable and space efficient
- Is water resistant, with sealing on the controls and digital display panel to protect the scale from liquid spills
- Has a removable stainless plate for easy cleaning
- Shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity (an optional function that can be turned off and on) to prolong the life of the batteries
- Is NSF certified
- Is warrantied by Escali for 2 years
Besides operating on AA batteries (two of them, included), the Escali Supernova works on 9-volt power adapter 9VAD (sold separately).
*Along with the weighing capacity of 13 lbs comes a change in the Supernova's increments when a certain weight is reached, as follows:
Measuring in grams: 0.5-gram increments from 0 until 1000g, then 1-gram increments (until the maximum weight of 6000 grams)
Measuring in ounces: 0.05-oz increments from 0 until 176 oz, then 0.1-oz increments (until the maximum weight of 211 ounces)
There is likewise no increment change when measuring in pounds + ounces. The increments are 0.1 oz throughout.
