The Auto Safety Lidlifter makes it safe to open cans. The can gets cut without resulting injury.

Unlike the standard can opener--which cuts into the top of the can--the Kuhn Rikon Lidlifter cuts into the side. Once the cutting is done, the lid is off, unattached to the can. You don't have to touch the lid, either: The edge of the severed lid is shaped so the Lidlifter's built-in pliers can grip the lid until you release a button and drop the lid in your wastebasket.
